finished

Former Hardrock king Karl Meltzer finished his trek across the Appalachion Trail recently. Due to injuries suffered along the way he wasn't able to set the record, but still made quite the speedy journey. Got this e-mail:

"Karl is done. Monday at 4:20 a.m., he completed his speed hike of theAppalachian Trail reaching the summit of Mt. Springer, Georgia 54days 21 hours and 12 minutes after starting out from Mt. Katahdin,Maine. As many of you know, Karl's time was not a new record. But enduring to the end, after injury and setbacks, without any chance of being the fastest? That's impressive."

Picked the perfect time to finish. Is it me or does the time 4:20 creep into the ultra world quite often?

Someday when I win the lottery, after I've bought houses in Leadville and Bandera, I'm going to hike the Appalachion, Continental Divide, and Pacific Crest trails. With an RV stocked with booze waiting for me at every trailhead, of course.
