Grays/Torreys

Since I didn't get nearly enough exercise on Saturday, I was talked into leading a hike up Grays and Torreys Peak with Melissa and $100 Buck.

Weather reports were iffy. But we took a chance, and the weather ended up holding (barely) just enough for us to grab both peaks. Visibility rarely was better than 20 feet, and I got to practice my glissading (fancy word for falling on your ass and sliding) on the way back.

For the record, it was Melissa's 5th 14er and $100's 3rd. I had climbed both peaks before, but am currently at 23 14ers climbed (twelve different mountains, plus Grays and Torreys twice, plus Pikes a bunch of times).

Bright idea of the day definitely went to Melissa. Grays stands at 14,270 feet (the highest point on the continental divide, FYI) and Torreys weighs in at 14,267 feet. Mel wants to take a shovel up to Grays and take off four feet so Torreys can jump it on the 14er list. Good luck on that!

Burgers and beers at Tommyknocker's in Idaho Springs capped off an awesome Colorado weekend!
