quote of the day

"Almost every long distance runner turns into a vegan while they're racing, anyway - you can't digest fat or protein very well."

that is awesome.

I think Jurker said something about "racing" in that quote. I just see you eating a burger and drinking a PBR in the mountains.

While wearing arm panties.

I think we've all seen cheese burgers at ultras!

I just might, JT. If I can ever get this Western States thing crossed off my list, HR is next up. It's pretty obviously the sweetest event in the country: 100 miles, loop course, sick vert, unparalleled scenery and terrain.

Anton,

No doubt. Only problem is, you need to get in. Last I checked they don't let any top-2's from shorter races into the thing and even if you run it and finish in the top-5 you could still end up 140th on the waiting list. I like that about the race but when you decide to come be prepared to wait a bit. It's a good test of patience. Like most of this sport, actually.

AJW,
Oh yes, I know, believe me.

"Good test of patience." That's a euphemism if I ever saw one.

It is somewhat amusing (okay, frustrating) that the powers-that-be in this situation are so concerned with deliberately developing such a shameless clique.

Of course, if I could just shove my ego aside and could also somehow ignore the baffling contradiction of intent, that--despite all other alleged interests to the contrary--the race committee still keeps some of the most meticulous course/time records in the sport, I would just go out and run the route on my own with a crew, for free, any time I'd like.

Really, this one doesn't get me that fired up--I mean, I've yet to ever even put my name in the lottery!

AJW, they do let past winners into the race automatically, so quit yer bitchin' and run faster next time!

Tony, you think you could take down Kyle's record? I'd think you'd hafta move back to the Springs to regain some toughness. Skipping the Green Mountain run last night because of a little rain? Weak.
