fall series

Just got the latest issue of Colorado Runner, and they named the Pikes Peak Road Runners Fall Series as their series of the year! A lot of good people put in a lot of volunteer hours to make this series happen, nice to see them get their due.

Other good pics:

Best half marathon - Platte River
Best non-ultra trail race - Pikes Peak Marathon and Ascent

Gotta question the best ultra pick of Collegiate Peaks (and Greenland 50K last year?). No problem with either of the races, I've done them both several times and will probably do both again this year. But they're hardly the highlight of the season. Though CP will improve this year due to Eddyline Brewing opening up right at the finish line. The voters aren't too out there though, Leadville and the San Juan Solstice have won this award in the past.

As with other mags, I think these best of lists are essentially pulled out of the editor's arse. Easy way to fill space.

It's a pretty significant stretch to name CP best ultra. No more than a good training run. Course is okay - but hardly legendary - and the organization gets a similar rating. They do alright, however, considering nearly all the volunteers appear to be totally unfamiliar (and weirded out) with/by ultra racing.

I'll probably do it again this year too, but only because I think I can beat AK's record, which he must have set as a relatively easy effort. Oh, and because you point out that there'll be beer at the finish. Where'd you get that nugget?

Kinda like Runners World naming the "Pikes Peak Hill Climb" to the list of toughest races. I'm sure it's hard, but a car race doesn't belong in a running magazine.

I have the same thoughts on CP. You can sleep in your own bed the night before, it's (relatively) cheap, it's great for training. But not exactly a destination race. And I do love how the non-running volunteers all think we're nuts.

Eddyline Brewing is less than a quarter mile from the finish, down near the creek. Really good stuff.
