50 grand for not paying attention!

That idiot who rode his bike into the back of a parked city vehicle settled for 50 grand. Read about it here. What a country we live in.

Almost had my truck hit by a cyclist on Cimmaron Road (highway 24) the other day. No bike lane and lots of traffic. Within two blocks of HWY 24 we have Colorado Ave (has bike lanes and much less traffic), Pikes Peak Ave (almost no traffic and more than enough room for bikes and cars), and a brand new paved hike-and-bike path. Unbelievable.

Thanks for the update, was wondering what happened with that. I was guessing all along that he was cut off within seconds without time to react (and may not remember it), but since I still haven't heard him claim that, I'll have to defer to the masses and agree with idiocy. Cyclists are certainly responsible for monitoring the bike lane for debris of all sizes.

As far as riding on crowded roads, it's not fun for anyone. I know I've ended up in crappy situations when riding in an unfamiliar area, much as I'd like to stop/memorize all bike maps, or temporarily when the destination is actually on the crowded road. So don't hate (I know you ride too) in all cases!

Unless it's a triathlete.

BIKERS ARE THE WORST! ESPECIALLY MOUNTAIN BIKERS!

Oh, wait, I have a mountain bike now.

There are a few facts missing from the story that are important, namely, was it a blind turn, or was this in the middle of a huge open straightaway? That makes all the difference.

It was in the middle of a very long, huge open straightaway. The news (and the Gazette as well) reported that the truck had been parked for several minutes before the biker ran into it.

The guy is a real good triathlete, so my guess, which is purely speculation, is that he was tucked down in those retarded aerobar thingies.

What is not speculation and is 100% fact is that all cyclists are retarded! Think all that spandex cuts off blood flow to the brain...

Mtnrunner2 - it is 2 miles from my house - wide open and straight. The guy is a tool and just ripped off the fine taxpayers of CS like JT and myself for nothing more than being a moron. If you bike in this town and don't watch where you are going in ANY bike lane, expect to end up on the deck.

Remember, this was a city truck with tons of flashing lights and signs on the back. I really, really wish the cyclist dude would give his side of the story.

Still, 50 grand is pretty sweet. I'm gonna start running into utilities trucks.

Wow. I recommend flogging followed by community service of riding on natural surfaces in cotton for 30 hours. Maybe he'll run into a bear and try to sue it.
