barefoot article

Article on barefoot running in today's NY Times, read it here. I think the barefoot runners are approaching the CrossFitters on my list of annoying workout people.

Still looking for anyone who runs barefoot who still runs fast. The guy who finished the SF Marathon sounds like such a badass at first, but then you read that he finished in 4:48. Ugh. Though I do give props to Barefoot Ted, who finished Leadville in 25:55. Luckily for him that tiny buckle won't put nearly as much stress on his bare feet as the big buckle would...

my big brother, Master Baster, Ithaca hasher and '10 Boston Qualifier (3:06 with a beer stop), just started using the Vibrams, but I'm not sure how fast he's actually running in them. He was supposed to attend IAH, but sadly he won't be making it to Winter Park.

Abebe Bikila is one example of a fast barefoot runner. Zola Budd is another.

There are probably hundreds if not thousands of sub-30 10K barefoot runners in East Africa whom we've never heard of.

IF you're looking for an example outside of Africa, Australian coach Percy Cerutty had his runners (including Herb Elliot) train barefoot on sand dunes, though they raced with shoes on.
