RIP

Lovejoy's, one of my favorite bars in the world and a sponsor of the Austin hash, will be closing it's doors in four months. Turns out the huge rush of non-smokers who were supposed to overrun the local pubs once the smoking ban went into effect never bothered to show up. LJ's becomes the first casulty of the ban, probably more to come. I swear, if they put a starbucks in there once it closes I'm gonna burn the building down.

It's a pretty big hit for beer fans in the city of Austin too. With the fire at the Bitter End and now LJ's, there are precious few brew pubs left. North by Northwest and Draft House, I think that's it.

Sad days.

Bad timing.

She's a huge wanker. I blame her for LJ's closing.

That sucks! LJ's was my first Austin bar! Now I have no reason to come back!

Man...Is everybody your scapegoat??

I was here for 1 week and had a couple beers at LJ's. There was NODOBY there and the owner said that the hashers had not been coming in and it was a huge let down. verbatim.

you forgot BB Rovers, dumbass

They make their own brew at BB Rover's? I'm not in a big hurry to go there, as you also said great things about Lil' Woodrows and the Tilted Kilt. Seems like it would attract the same kind of crowd, which is a lot different than the crowd that goes to the bars I enjoy.

I've heard really good things about the Tilted Kilt, even Guam liked it. It's on my list...

They don't make there own brew. The crowd is definitely different than Lil Woodrows and Tilted Kilt. Much more of a neighborhood bar. Smut Mutt had had a few On-On-Ons there back in the day. It is a really good bar. Lil Woodrows and Tilted Kilt are only good for girlie watching.

I'm losing track, who's the dumbass who doesn't know what a brew pub is?

Uh, what the f*ck has Austin done? At this point it sounds like I've access to one brew pub (AND it's thriving AND non-smoking BUT imperial pints cost $5.50) which is only one less than y'all and I'm on a fucking island in the middle of nowhere. Knave and I have waxed lyrical about Lovejoy's and Dennis Hopper IPA and Sparky's and the Beer College (which we never joined, shame on us) until everyone around us has told us to shut up. I'm in the middle of work and I'm about to burst into tears. You guys SUCK.

P.S. The Tilted Kilt sounds like a cutesy plastic empty name like the Fox and Hound, which incidently displaced another beloved brew pub.

P.P.S. Isn't B.B. Rovers in a strip mall? You people...

Sigh...a lot has changed since you left, SE. Nowadays, if a bar has a chick in a skirt and $6 pitchers of coors light, people think it's a gift from god.

By the way, Barely Manbelow came up to me at Toronto IAH and said his favorite trail of all time was the Austin IAH ballbuster!

Awww, that's sweet of him to say. Seriously, I miss all y'all, even the people I've not met yet. LJ's demise is very dark news indeed.

The new folks aren't bad, just misguided. On the last day, when we riot and tear the place up, I'll try to steal you something nice from LJ's.
