Good article on the harmfulness of certain drugs and how our laws do nothing to reflect that fact can be seen here. The above chart was made with data from Britain and those wackos seem to use different drugs than we do here in the US. If I had to make an educated guess, the top three most destructive drugs here in the Springs are meth, alcohol, and prescription painkillers.

I agree with you. What in the world is khat??
If memory serves me right, khat is a leaf you chew and makes you think you're invincable, ala coke/pcp. Many of the enemy in Somalia (ala Blackhawk Down) were on it so they attacked in waves and were hard to put down.
At the risk of sounding like Net, who begins every sentence with, "I read a book once, and every educated American has read it...."
But the only time I ever heard of khat was in Black Hawk Down. The Somalians took it so they could be awake when the Rangers kicked their ass.
FYI, the movie was MUCH better than the book
