Ritz (that would be former CU Buff Dathan Ritzenhein, not current CO hasher Tits on the Ritz) busted out a 12:56 5,000 meters in Zurich today. I believe that's a new American record, and slightly faster than the pace I averaged at Leadville...
He said on his blog this morning before the race that he was feeling strong, so I guess he was right. http://dathanritzenhein.competitor.com/
apparently he ran in the back of the field for 2km, then poured it on at the end. universalsports.com should have the race available on replay pretty soon.
Can't wait to see it, sounds like a Dave Wottle-esque race for him. Still, I would think my CR at the Running Off the Grid 5K is still the American performance of the year due to the net elevation gain of the course.
