big apple

Just found out my NOLA run qualified me for the 2012 NYC Marathon. Think I'm gonna take the plunge.

The race is more expensive than Hardrock.

Other than that, running the race is kind of like 22miles of the Bolder Boulder as far as crowds/spectators good. Which, you'll either really love, or really hate. I dig it and the race isn't really 'crowded' while running. the other 4.2 miles (when you loop into Da Bronx) it's like running through 'escape from NY' or some other post apocalyptic ghetto warzone. After you finish...the finish chute that you have to 'herd' through is about .5 miles.

I had a chance to run NY back in 2004. While a poor Grad student. Costs of everything about gave me a heart attack. In hindsight, wish I sacked up and ran the race.

McSorley's was already on the list. Will look into the other stuff.

I like running Bolder Boulder, and you can definitely get a fast time there. So that makes me want to run NYC even more. I'll be shooting for a 2:49, so while I might get edged out by the Kenyans I think it won't be too crowded.

Have a place to stay, so that helps on the budget. Might be able to swing by and see my folks as well, if I don't visit soon they'll probably take me out of the will.

I am, already, dreading the finish chute.

Have fun! Barely qual'd and wanted to do it next year, but now I'm in the Grad school cash position that Jaime describes above, and that would mean registering for both a ridiculously overpriced marathon and overpriced ultra (WS) in the same year.

But NYCM looks awesome, and they're only going to tighten up the qual requirements.

PS: Forgot Badwater's more expensive than WS, so if you did Badwater in the same year, along with BB10k (is that the most expensive 10K?), that's like the Grand Slam of Registration Fees. Or something.

Forgot to mention that this might be the year I do the Gorilla Run. $100 for a 5K. But you get a gorilla costume!
