Thursday
Easy AM seven miles, 63 minutes. Then hopped on the bike to get to work.
Triple Crown awards ceremony tonight, so no Incline happy hour. Think I got second in my age group.
Stole this pic from Adventure Journal. Cops caught this guy stealing a bike and arrested his ass. Enjoy prison rape, bike thief!

wedding trip, part IV
Soon after getting hitched we bolted the bright lights of Vegas for Springdale, UT. Had dinner at our usual spot, The Flying Monkey. Then we were almost as lucky as back in Flagstaff when we found out about the beer festival - we found out the Zion Canyon Music Festival was going on right down the road. And it was free. $100 and I got up there pretty late, but in time to catch The Brothers Comatose. $100 loves her some bluegrass so this really made an awesome trip even better.
Early the next morning we were on the Zion shuttle headed to hike the famous Narrows. We did an out and back, probably nine miles total, and it was incredible.
My buddy Garry H had done this same hike earlier in the week, and I got a map saying he had left a wedding present in the canyon for us. Yes, we were able to find it.
The seeds for this hike were planted last year when I ran the Zion Traverse. Pretty sure $100 and I will return to Zion, we got pretty interested in The Subway while we were there...

Tues - Found myself up north after work, so no Manitiou track for me. Had planned on hitting the track at Eagleview Middle School (where Fall Series III starts) but when I got there the trails of Ute Valley were too much to ignore. Ten minute warm up, 20 minutes hard, ten mile cool down, 4.8 miles.
Wed - Free day off work thanks to utilities shutting down water to the office. Took full advantage of it, as Josh and I went out and ran a hilly 20 miler (Garden, Manitou, Red Rocks) in three hours. My first run of more than 15 miles since Hardrock.

weekend miles
Saturday - Ran the Pawtoberfest 5K at Bear Creek Park with $100 and the dog, 29:12. PR for the dog. That evening I got out for another ten miles in the Garden.
Sunday - Hungover. 15 miles around the Garden and Manitou, 2:27:46. Was hoping for 20 but just couldn't make it happen.
Somehow ended up with 65 miles on the week. Training has been all over the place lately. Really just hoping to hang on at New York, but that race is now an afterthought as far as fast times go. Really want to start training for Mt. Mitchell and I'll probably just start getting ready for that instead of doing any kind of taper for NYC.

wedding trip, part III
After hauling our asses out of the ditch, we bolted straight to Vegas. Wiley and Jes immediately hit the booze, while $100 and I had some legal shit to take care of. The Clark County government building, walking distance from the strip, is open from 8AM until midnight to process marriage licenses. Everyone was dressed up, some in their actual wedding dresses. $100 and I hadn't showered in four days. Here we are waiting on paperwork:
Then it was off to the romantic Golden Nugget, home base for the few days we'd be in Vegas. After a quick shower, we hit two of my favorite Vegas hangouts, the Double Down and Dino's. Good times!
On wedding day, I woke up and headed out for some alone time at Red Rock Canyon. Headed up Turtlehead Peak. Great scenery, awesome park, I'll always go here for a run when I'm in Vegas. Turtlehead Peak is a great five-ish mile run, should have been easy but I clipped a rock on the way down and fell hard. Lots of blood, and I jacked my shoulder up pretty good. Still hurts today.
After heading back to the hotel and cleaning up, $100 and I headed off to the Neon Museum for some actual professional pics. I'll post those when I get 'em.
After that, it was more goofing off and drinking. We were married by the good folks at A Little White Chapel, because if they've married such good folks as Michael Jordan, Brittney Spears, Darryl Strawberry, Slash, Bruce Willis & Demi Moore, and Silvester Stallone, then damnit they were good enough for us! We didn't actually go to the chapel, but got a limo/pastor/photographer package to have the ceremony beneath the Vegas sign. Classy.
I needed a ring for the ceremony, so $100 picked one up for me at a gas station for less than three bucks. It doubles as a bottle opener. She is allowing me to go ringless, I told her I can't stand jewelry but we all know a wedding ring ruins my chances to pick up chicks. $100's ring was much more expensive, picked up in a thrift store next door to Moonlight Pizza in Salida.
The wedding party. Thanks to all who came out to make it such a memorable experience!
Still going through a ton of pics, and I'll post the good ones as I come to them.

wedding trip, part II
Soon enough it was time to head down to Havasupai Falls. It's a ten mile hike from the car to the campsite. Nothing too overwhelming, but not since my Infantry days had I carried over 50 pounds on my back. Luckily, a lot of the weight was booze, so the packs were lighter coming back out.
Typical Grand Canyon beautiful scenery on the hike down:
A few hours later we passed Navajo Falls, and soon after that we got our first glimpse of Havasu Falls.
Camped and hung out for that day. Next day it was off to check out Mooney Falls, which has a pretty sketchy descent required to get to the bottom.
Mooney Falls:
If you look closely, I'm drinking a beer at the picnic table:
$100 and I hiked a few miles downstream. Really cool stuff. I'd like to return someday and go all the way to the Colorado river.
Didn't take too may pics on my phone, I'll dig some others up later. This was a fantastic part of the trip, something we've wanted to do for a long time. No pictures can do the place justice, so beautiful and the water is so blue you won't believe it even when you see it. Hard hike in and out, but there are helicopter rides for the lazy ($90 each way). Water is available at the campsite, which really helps cut down on weight.

Incline Happy Hour
First Incline Happy Hour in a while, due to a rock climbing class on Thursday nights I was taking. But that's done, so no more excuses. I could tell this was the first time in a while (since the Incline beer mile) I've climbed that beast. Two hours from the house, up the Incline, and back down to the Cog. Could definitely feel the previous two days hard workouts in the legs.
Been switching running logs from Runner's World to the freebie Garmin page. Trying to figure out how to post that stuff to this page. Have GPS stuff from Havasaupai Falls, Humphreys Peak, Turtlehead Peak, and the Zion Narrows to post.
Nice to see some of the old crew at Kinfolk's again. Good luck to those guys headed out for the Milwaukee Marathon this Sunday. And good luck to everyone at Chicago!

Wed PM
Hard workout tonight. 3.7 mile warm up, three miles on the Santa Fe trail in 19:23, ten minute RBI, two miles in 12:53, then a 20 minute cool down. Much longer intervals than I'm used to, hurt pretty good. 11.4 miles total.
Commute #40
Easy run to work, 40 consecutive weeks with at least one truckless day. One hour, 5.8 miles.
Tuesday Track
One mile warm up, 10 x 400m with 200m RBI, one mile cool down. Manitou track. Didn't push as hard as usual due to the ten-ish day layoff, but still hit between 82 and 84 on all the quarters.

wedding trip, part I
After leaving after work and car camping at the UFO Watchtower, we slowly made our way to Flagstaff. Of course we stopped by the Durango Diner for a late breakfast. And now that El Rancho opens at 10AM we were able to drop by there as well. We both love Durango and it was tough to leave.
Stopped by Four Corners to drink beer at four states at once (yes, I know this is not the actual boundary between the four states, it's still a cool place to visit if you're driving by).
Then it was off to Flagstaff. We checked in to the Grand Canyon hostel and went about exploring the city. Very cool place, lots of bars nearby. We also found out about this:
We had planned on going to Sedona on that day, but we decided to bail to hit the beerfest instead. Great choice, had a blast and even took third in the brat eating contest.
Also completed the Flagstaff Ale Trail in what is probably an FKT.
The next day was a hungover hike to the top of Humphreys Peak, my 14th state highpoint.
And then it was off to stage for the Havasupai Falls trek. We had planned on car camping, but after a few too many beers at the Roadkill Cafe/OK Saloon we saw this nugget next door and decided to live it up:

There was actually one semi-serious thing done for the wedding, a photo shoot at the Neon Graveyard. Pretty cool place, it's where all the old Vegas neon signs go when they're replaced by something flashier. You can see the pics here.

Back in Old Colorado City after an awesome wedding/roadtrip. Will get caught up over the next few days.

commute #39
Did run to work last Thursday, keeping the streak alive.
Today was a quick five miles to work, 54 minutes (stopped for bagels). Once again, it's friggin' cold out in the morning.
Heard this nugget on the way to work today. Is there a more awesome combination than Cake and the Muppets?

Tuesday
AM - Easy morning run on the Garden roads, 6.4 miles, 62 minutes. Getting pretty chilly out at 5:30AM.
PM - Manitou track. One mile warm up, 6 x 800m with 200m RBI, one mile cool down. 2:56, 2:54, 2:52, 2:50, 2:46, 2:45. You get a full 400m rest when you do the Yasso workout, pretty sure I could average well under three.
Got in touch with Amazon. I asked them if they could blow up the Kindle the next time someone turns it on. They couldn't do that, nor could they locate it via GPS, but they could shut it down permanently. So at least the thief can't use that anymore.

How to properly pass cyclists on the road...
I mean, you have to let the bikers know you're behind them, right?
And it happened in Longmont! I would have bought Brandon beer for life if this had been his hummer.
I will not believe cyclists use any sort of common sense concerning traffic until the local guys quit riding on Manitou/Colorado Ave west of Benny's. If they were truly concerned about traffic issues, they would ride on Pikes Peak Ave (no traffic) or the new paved bike path that was built. Their actions are not meshing with their words.
And yes, the two cyclists in this video are obviously on PED's.
