Having lived in Brooklyn for a while (near Coney Island) it's mind-boggling to see photos of how high the water got in Manhattan. I mean, the island is pretty high off the river.
Just heard about the race cancellation on the way home. Given the duress some people are under (i.e. no home, no power, etc.) I would have called it the same way...
Still tons of great things to do there, and a great place to just get out and walk (or run).
I was a poor (pre-brew-pub) student, I went to places like Soup & Burger http://cozysoupnburger.com/index2.htm. Nothing fancy, just one of those places you expect to see John Belushi on the grill...
