Picking up Ryan K at Grouse. Was prepared to go without a pacer since Shad bailed once he decided to train full time for an upcoming 3000m steeplechase, but a recent hungover DeCaLiBro hike reminded me it might be a good thing to have someone out there.
The crux of the race will be from Grouse to Sherman. Last time I ran Hardrock, I was not mistaken for Usain Bolt as it took me nine hours to cover 13.5 miles. I need to cover that section a little faster this year.
Think I'm going to use my iPhone for music, so updates will be spotty until I hit Grouse. $100 might be able to get some interweb access on the laptop at Telluride and Ouray, and I'll have her let the FB/blog world know how I'm doing.
Starting to get nervous. Should be confident as I feel I'm in much better shape than I've ever been for this race, but all I seem to think about now are doomsday scenarios.

Over, Ryan K gets you lost.
Over. I will be lying in wait singing like a siren with a case of PBR.
Cracking up on the steeplechase comment.
Under. Weather looks good; no excuses. Do it mofo! Supposedly HR banned alcohol from aid stations but...I may have a Lone Star for ya if we are cool about it!
I do not have the endurance required to cheer against you for 33 hours straight. You better finish faster than that.
Way over. Just think, when you roll into Sherman young sky walker will be finishing, a mere 30 miles ahead.
So I should shower, take a nap, then meet you at the brewery at 3pm? Honestly, 32:55 would be sweet. I hope Ryan mules plenty of PBR for you.
I think Muling is against the rules. But Reverse Muling... I'm thinking he could at least carry a PBR up Handies for me, no rules against that.
Will be watching for updates all weekend man. I realized this past Saturday that HR was only a week away! Have a great race!
You'll rock a big race this year. See you shortly.
Well done splits.you actually have some good leeway there by Grouse(getting from Chapman to Telluride might take about a half hour more with new route. But there are a few very consistent runners(Neal Taylor-2006, and Tom Remkes-2008),that hit Grouse in 12:12 AM to 12:24 AM that went on to go under 33 hours,(doubt they went to Lake City for bar-hopping on the second half though).
GZ - my dog will be out there looking for you.
Is this Sky Walker dude the same guy who curled up in the fetal position at The Bear because he didn't want to run alone in the dark?
Rob, the over/under should really be on whether or not I finally beat somebody from the Fort. Are you prepared to never return home if you break the streak?
Course is longer this year, but I think it will even out since it's pretty much snow/water free.
Just don't get him lost, Kircher!
