I agree with the D&D analogy. I've been lobbing some small wagers at some "select" NBA/MLB games (hitting a little parlay wouldn't you know dramatically enhances my beer consumption - frighting). These fantasy and hadicapper types are a gas, and probably know more than many of the suits on ESPN.
For instance, the Pirates' bullpen lacks lefty depth and their biggest closure prospect in the minors has a brutal anal fissure.
I played FF in college for a few years, wasting as much time on that as I do on running now. I made more money playing FF, but it still ended up being like 50 cents per hour.
